What is SMO and SMM?

What is SMO and SMM?
SMO or Social Media Optimization (in Spanish: Optimization of social networks) is a finished created by Rohit Bhargava in August 2006, the same refers to changes in a site to optimize it to make it easier to spread through media social and online communities by users.(Buffalo Bills)

SMM or Social Media Marketing (in Spanish: Marketing in social networks) was a term that appeared some time later, referring to the use of social networks to disseminate messages and content using different forms of viral marketing.

What are the main differences between SMO and SMM?

Social networking optimization refers more to what can be done within the site, modifying it for the purposes mentioned above, and social media marketing refers to what can be done off-site without any change within the site.

Making an analogy with SEO, we could say that :

As SEO is on-site and off-site, the SMO would be the part on-site and off-part SMM site.
As SEO is part of SEM (Search Engine Marketing), the SMO is part of SMM.
Rohit Bhargava when using the term SMO first added 5 rules to make a SMO campaign properly, which then expanded to 16 by the cooperation of others(Buffalo Bills blog)

The 16 rules until today are :

It is more "linkeable"

Be humble
Do not be afraid to try new things
Develop a strategy
